Makeup Look: Toned Down VS Bombshell Night Out

My friends have been bugging me for quite a while to try posting my makeup looks. I told them that I don’t really have looks, that I just go with whatever I feel like at the moment – mixing colors up, experimenting, maybe go for a makeup peg I saw in one of my magazines, or be inspired simply by a color palette I found in one of my design sets.

When I saw Avon’s You Make It Beautiful Blogger Challenge, I thought I’d give it a try by posting a quick tutorial on my amateur take on make-up application.

1. I believe that great make-up enhances your natural beauty – easily applied, sheer, and hopefully luminous. A good base is essential so I try my best to take care of my skin by eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, taking off all make-up at the end of the day, and cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Sometimes though, I think I owe my skin mostly to my genes. But prevention is better than cure so I religiously apply sunscreen and eye cream.

A friend recommended I try Avon’s Anew 360 White Ultra UV Shield SPF 50 months back and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m almost out in this current tube though and I have no back-ups unfortunately. I’ll have to look for a substitute in my latest AVON brochure.

I always apply eye cream regardless of whether I use concealer or not (I find eye cream a must under concealer so it doesn’t crack) and Avon’s Anew Rejuvenate 24 Hour Eye Cream is especially good because it has both a day cream with SPF 25 and a night cream in one nifty pot.

2. After applying the above skincare, I proceed with the make-up base using Banila Co.’s Prime Primer Mattifying Balm which I got from last year’s Korea trip.

I use this under my recently acquired MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 in NC40 which I apply with a (stippling) brush, MAC 188. I have to use a primer not only for its base properties but also because I need it to act like a “shield” between my foundation and my face as I found out that I have acidic skin which causes foundation to turn about one or two shades darker upon setting.

3. I then proceed with applying color to my eyes and for this look, I used one of the palettes from my Victoria’s Secret Supermodel On-the-go Makeup Kit – the Bombshell Night Out.

The light grey shade I applied all over the lid followed by the black which I blended from the outer corner towards the center. I also applied in my outer lower lash line. The shimmering blue shade I blended from the inner corner towards the center and in my inner lower lash line. I used the lightest to highlight the brow bone, the center lid and my eyes’ inner corners because I keep seeing the VS angels with this but I’m not entirely sure if I applied correctly. I also used the included black gel eyeliner which I layered with a black eyeliner pencil from Banila Co. for a darker lash line.

4. I finished my eye makeup with multiple coats of mascara. For this look, I experimented with combining Avon’s Super Shock Max Waterproof Mascara in Black Brown and Maybelline’s the Falsies Waterproof Mascara in Black.

5. For my brows, I opted for the ease of applying brow pencil using Avon’s Perfect Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown.

6. Since my lips quickly dry out, I always have a lip balm on hand. My balm of choice these days is Maybelline’s Baby Lips.

The VS Palette came with its own lip gloss but since I wanted to make my lip color last longer, I used Avon Glimmersticks Lip Liner in Pink Bouquet first before applying the gloss on top.

7. Finally, I finished with Laura Mercier’s Loose Setting Powder from my Laura Mercier Flawless Face Kit.

Here’s a short video on how I applied the makeup I listed above.

And finally, the finished look – a toned down VS Bombshell Night Out look. Next time, I will try to style my hair to fit the look more.
